VR Horses found in a California Direct-Ship Facility

Wild Horse Connection (WHC) has purchased 15 horses — 11 from the Virginia Range, 3 BLM‑managed horses, and 1 unbranded horse — ensuring they are now safe and out of the pipeline.

These horses were brought to WHC’s attention after being identified as Virginia Range horses located in a California direct‑ship pen.

WHC is requesting a full and transparent investigation into how Virginia Range horses ended up in a direct‑ship environment. This request is made to promote clarity and accountability for any individual or agency involved, with the goal of strengthening protections for the Virginia Range horses. During this process, it was noted that a foal is missing from the band,  the mare of this foal ended up dying due to a severe injury that she sustained sometime between the initial gathering to the time she was released at a temporary holding sanctuary.

Wild Horse Connection is committed to fully assisting any agency conducting an investigation. Our priority is cooperation, transparency, and safeguarding the future of the Virginia Range horses.

Purchasing these 15 horses, providing immediate veterinary care, and arranging emergency transport resulted in several thousand dollars in unexpected expenses. WHC is asking for community support to help cover: Purchase costs, Veterinary evaluations, treatments and Transport fees.

Every donation — large or small — supports the safety and recovery of these horses and strengthens WHC’s ability to respond quickly when the Virginia Range horses need our help.
