Our Mission

To keep the Wild Horses of the Virginia Range free by educating the community about living with our Mustangs and rescuing those that have been removed from the range.

We work with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, City, County, Law Enforcement, Developers and Land Owners to achieve this.  Wild Horse Connection installs fencing, gates and cattle guards and provides water resources in the higher range so the horses stay high up and not down on our community streets.  We train our rescues so they can be used for therapy and emotional support and provide emergency resources to those in need.  We connect our community in order to protect the Wild Mustangs by education and awareness.

Our History

We are the Wild Horse Connection which was formed because there was a need for energetic, nonprofit work in the Reno area. We’ve consistently grown since then, all thanks to the helping hands of this amazing community! Wild Horse Connection is a 501c(3) devoted to our American Heritage Mustangs.

Our volunteers dedicate their lives to be their voices in a time when their freedom and their lives are being threatened.

Some of the keys to helping save our wild horses depend on community awareness and community cooperation. The overall goal is to keep the horses in their habitat and out of your neighborhoods and not only is it illegal to feed the wild horses, but it is also extremely unsafe for them.  Human and vehicle familiarity are dangerous. This hurts our wild horses, because they feel safe in a situation that is dangerous for them.  You can rest easy knowing that we are working really hard to care for all wild horses on the Virginia Range and make sure each one remains safe and up in the hills. We are just a phone call away to answer your questions regarding these beautiful national treasures.

It is illegal to feed the wild horses

It is important to know that it is illegal to feed the wild horses in Nevada. Due to the cooperative agreement with the Nevada Department of Agriculture, one of the most important things Wild Horse Connection does is diversionary feeding.  We have NDA approved diversionary feeding sites used to divert horses from roadways and neighborhoods.  Horses follow patterns.  Illegally feeding horses in your neighborhood teaches the horses to come there for food.  This is dangerous for you and for the horses.
